NCDHHS to Unveil 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline Signage for State Government Buildings on 988 Day
Credentialed media are invited to attend an event commemorating 988 Day on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2026, at the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services Headquarters. NC Health and Human Services Secretary Dev Sangvai and other leadership will unveil new 988 signage that vital information to help those in mental health crisis.
Then state departments of Health and Human Services and Administration are partnering together to install signs at state parking facilities throughout Raleigh. The design will also be offered at no cost to any organization that would like to print and install themselves.
988 Day serves to raise awareness and highlight the success of the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, a nationwide network of more than 200 state and local call centers that provides counseling services for individuals looking for help with suicide, mental health and substance use-related crises. The service provides targeted support for many at-risk populations, including veterans and youth, and features Spanish-language counselors. Direct video calling is also available for consumers fluent in American Sign Language.
