Zelenskyy Confers with Spanish Parliament Chief

(MENAFN) Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed Tuesday that he hosted Francina Armengol, Speaker of Spain's Congress of Deputies, for high-level talks in Kyiv, with defense cooperation and continental security topping the agenda.

Zelenskyy disclosed the meeting via his official Telegram channel, stating that discussions centered on air defense systems, bilateral defense collaboration, and broader European security frameworks.

"Held a meeting with the Chairman of the Congress of Deputies of Spain, Francina Armengol. First of all, we discussed defense cooperation — air defense, development of PURL (Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List) and SAFE (Security Action for Europe) programs," he said.

Both sides agreed that Europe must develop the independent capacity to defend its skies against ballistic missiles, drone threats, and other aerial dangers, Zelenskyy noted.

The meeting further touched on the push to establish an international tribunal to prosecute the crime of aggression against Ukraine, alongside ongoing efforts to locate and repatriate children reportedly deported or displaced amid the conflict.

Zelenskyy took the opportunity to express appreciation to Spain's legislature, government, and citizens for their sustained backing since Russia's full-scale invasion began, singling out both military and humanitarian contributions for particular recognition.

He also credited European partners with advancing a collective anti-ballistic missile defense architecture following a recent gathering of national security advisers, referencing what he called a "coalition on anti-ballistic protection." Zelenskyy said 13 nations along with the office of the NATO Secretary-General took part in those consultations.

On battlefield conditions, Zelenskyy projected confidence, asserting that Ukraine maintains its strongest wartime footing to date across multiple fronts.

"In general, Ukraine's positions at the front, both in our long-range sanctions and in joint results with partners, are the highest in years," he said. "We need to keep up the level and achieve results."
